NEET Exam Guidelines: General Instructions and Rules to Follow Before, During and After the Exam
Hello future doctors, I know how anxious you are right now. I’ve been in your place. What we all do by this time is go to the internet and read all the stuff around exams, in an attempt to minimize our anxiety. And honestly, it works.
Here, I have a detailed blog on the instructions and rules to be followed by you on the exam day. Read it thoroughly to make sure that you are not confused on the exam day.

NEET 2024 Exam Day Guidelines: Instructions
The following exam day guidelines will have to be followed by the NEET takers.
- The last entry into the examination hall will be at 1:30 pm. You will be allowed to enter the examination hall after 1:30 pm. So, you should leave home well in advance after considering all factors such as traffic, location of the Centre and weather conditions, etc.
- You must carry the NEET 2024 admit card—duly signed by a parent/guardian and a postcard-sized photograph must be affixed on it—along with a valid photo ID proof and a passport-sized photograph on the exam day.
- He/she must produce the admit card of NEET 2024 on demand.
- It is mandatory to undergo security procedures, such as body scanners and frisking. Candidates are thus advised to cooperate with the security personnel present at the exam centre.
- If you intend to use their own scribe, you must carry a ‘Letter of Undertaking’ to the exam centre.
- You will not be allowed to leave the examination hall before 5:20 pm
- All those appearing for the examination must note that the attendance sheet has to be signed twice, the first time right after the examination begins and the second time while handing over the answer sheet. Any candidate who fails to sign twice will be considered absent.
- You will have to follow all the instructions given and will have to maintain discipline in the Examination Hall.
- You cannot breach any examination rule.
- You cannot use or promote any Unfair Means activity during the examination.
- If you find another candidate using Unfair Means in the examination, you must immediately inform the Invigilators on duty.
- You cannot bring any barred items at the Centre.
- You must cooperate with the staff at the Examination Centre during Frisking.
- You should report at the allotted Examination Centre well in advance to make yourself available for compulsory physical frisking.
- You must follow the dress code for appearing in NEET (UG) – 2024 Examination.
- If you are wearing a customary dress, then you need to report at the allotted Examination centre latest by 12:30 pm on the day of the examination.
- Regularly visit the website (https://neet.nta.nic.in//) and also check registered email/SMS for any updates regarding the Examination.
- It is mandatory to provide the Mobile Number and e-mail of the Parent or Guardian during the submission of the online Application Form of NEET (UG) – 2024 as a copy of the Confirmation Page, Final Score Card will also be sent to them.
- In case, you are found breaching any of the above, you will not be permitted to enter in the Examination Centre and will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
- If you indulge in any unwanted activities, you shall be debarred from taking this examination as per rules and shall also be liable for criminal action and/or any other action deemed fit by the NTA.
- Visit the Centre a day before the examination to confirm the location, distance, etc. to avoid any problem of reaching late at the centre and then not being allowed to appear in the examination.
Before entering the examination hall
Below are the safety measures that candidates need to follow before entering the exam hall.
- Candidates need to report to their NEET 2024 exam centre as per the reporting time mentioned on their admit card only.
- The candidate must show the Admit Card on-demand for admission in the Examination Hall. A candidate who does not possess a valid Admit Card will not be allowed to enter the Examination Hall by the Centre Superintendent.
- If you are suffering from diabetes, you will be allowed to carry the eatables (with prior intimation) like sugar tablets/fruits (like banana/apple/orange) and transparent water bottles into the examination hall. But, you will not be allowed to carry packed foods like chocolate/ candy/sandwich, etc.
- A seat with a roll number will be allotted to each candidate. Candidates must find out and occupy their allotted seats. If a candidate is found appearing in the Examination from a seat or room other than the allotted one, the candidature will be cancelled.
- Candidates must bring ONLY the following documents on the day of examination at the test centre. Candidates who will not bring these will not be allowed to sit in the examination:
- A printed copy of Admit Card downloaded from NTA website with passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Application form) pasted on it.
- One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) for pasting on the specific space in the Attendance Sheet at Centre during NEET (UG) – 2024 Examination.
- One Post Card Size (4”X6”) colour photograph with white background should be pasted on the Proforma downloaded with the Admit Card.
- The proforma with Post Card size photograph shall be handed over to the Invigilator in the Examination Hall.
- Any one of the authorized photo IDs (must be original and valid) like PAN card/Driving License/Voter ID/Passport/Aadhaar Card /Ration Card/ Class 12 Admit Card with Photograph /any other valid photo ID issued by the Government.
- PwBD certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming the relaxation under PwBD category
Inside the Examination Hall
Following are the instructions candidates must follow inside the exam hall.
- They have to paste their photograph on the attendance sheet and sign the sheet
- They will now have to sign their NEET 2024 admit card in front of the invigilator
- Before the start of the Examination, important instructions will be given by the Invigilator. You must comply with these rules.
- The Test will start exactly at the time mentioned in the Admit Card and an announcement of the time will be made by the Invigilator.
- You must sign twice on the Attendance Sheet at the specified place, the first time immediately after the commencement of the examination and the second time while handing over the Answer Sheet to the Invigilator. You are also required to put the Thumb impression in the space provided on the Attendance Sheet.
- You should NOT leave your seat or the Examination Room/Hall until the Test concludes as per the schedule.
- You should not leave the Room/Hall without handing over your OMR Sheets to the invigilator on duty.
- You must check and ensure that the Test Booklet contains as many pages as are written on the top of the cover page.
- If you are unable to appear on the scheduled date of the test for any reason, a re-test shall not be held by the NTA under any circumstances.
- Smoking in the examination centre and nearby is strictly prohibited.
After the examination
After submitting the answer sheets, candidates need to maintain proper discipline and decorum and follow the below instructions while leaving the centre.
- You must remain seated and wait for instructions from the invigilator.
- You will have to hand over the duly filed admit card and the OMR sheet to the invigilator.
