Must-Watch YouTube Channels for Every 1st Year MBBS Student!
Hello, future doctors! Welcome to a world full of 100s of textbooks, extremely long lectures, and overwhelming schedules. First year is very overwhelming, the jump from NCERTs to Guyton and Lippincott has been felt by every medico.
Sometimes the college lectures seem to be given in a foreign language – not a word you can understand.
But don’t worry! Youtube has a lot of alternatives for us medicos. Whether you want to learn a subject from scratch or just want to revise it quickly in the most desi way possible, there are resources for all of your needs.
So, let me take you through the must-watch YouTube channels for every 1st year medico.
Physiology
1. Ninja Nerd
This is a goldmine, for free. The whiteboard teaching and the use of diagrams for easy explanations reminds me of school lectures.
When you feel overwhelmed by Guyton, shift to Ninja nerd and try to read the topics and he teaches them. You can also refer to him for embryology.
It is a good resource to understand the subject from scratch. You can watch him on 2x and make notes/ annotate textbooks on the way.
2. Dr. Najeeb Lectures
It is impossible to not hear about Dr. Najeeb in your MBBS journey. He is a legend in the medical world.
Even if you’re starting from zero, knowing absolutely nothing about the topic, when you are done with his lectures, you will feel like an expert.
Though his videos are a little longer, the way he breaks down the most difficult concepts with simple drawings and storytelling is unmatched. If you’re looking for crystal-clear explanations, this is your channel.
3. Edu Club
If you are looking for a quick physiology revision, with a good enough explanation of the concepts, then Edu CLub is your channel.
I remember reading Edu Club notes on the way to my exam centers during the university exams. It is concise, and gives you enough material to expand on in the paper.
Anatomy
1. Johari MBBS
No matter what we all study on day 1, the day before the exam everybody watches Johari. He makes short notes, and teaches anatomy concepts in 5 minutes.
He also makes schematic, easy-to-replicate diagrams and gives you a good orientation with the help of cardboard cutouts.
Johari shares tips, tricks, and his own experiences as an MBBS student, giving you a relatable and realistic view of the journey.
It is the must watch last minute channel for Anatomy and osteology.
2. TCML (The Conceptual Medicine Learning)
Similar to Johari. Short videos, summary of important points and visualization of anatomy on his own hands and limbs.
Some people prefer Johari and others do TCML. Watch both and understand what fits you better for quick revision.
3. AnatomyZone
AnatomyZone is perfect for 3D visualization. They offer free animated videos of the body’s internal structure.
Whenever you find it difficult to visualize anatomy, just watch a quick ‘Anatomy Zone’ video.
The visual approach is ideal for students who prefer to “see” the body in action rather than just reading about it.
4. Kenhub
Although it is not a channel that offers all its resources for free, the ones that are free are very good. They use realistic diagrams like ones you’ll find in the Netter’s Atlas.
This makes retention and thus replication of diagrams easier in exams.
5. Dr. Rose Embryology
Embryology is one of the most overlooked and thus seemingly difficult subjects.
Dr. Rose simplifies embryology with animated diagrams and thorough explanations. You will be able to visualize all the stages of fetal development with Dr. Rose.
Trust me, this channel makes understanding embryology way easier than the standard textbooks do.
6. Angelina Isaac
Is osteology giving you sleepless nights? If the answer is yes, then you must visit Angelina Isaac’s channel.
She offers in-depth osteology tutorials that break down bones in a way that is easy to remember.
The videos are easy to follow and detailed. So if you are one of those who need to know everything about the bone, you have found your dream channel.
Biochemistry
1. Jambhulkar Biochemistry
Jambhulkar Biochemistry focuses on Indian medical students, so the content is perfectly tailored to our syllabus.
In my first year, my entire batch used to watch Jambhulkar videos. Biochemistry gets difficult and you need somebody to make silly tricks and acronyms to help you remember it.
Whether it’s glycolysis or the urea cycle, you’ll never forget a step after watching his videos.
The perfect last minute/study-from-scratch resource on biochemistry.
2. Dr Matt and Dr Mike
A great channel with great explanations.
They break down biochemical pathways, enzymes, and molecular structures with simple language. You can follow along at your own pace.
Their videos are concise, so you can also quickly revise any topic before exams.
Conclusion:
First year is often the most difficult because you are new to the world of medicine. Do not hesitate to explore other study resources instead of just relying on the textbooks.
We all struggle with first year subjects and we all take help of quick 5 minute videos and silly acronyms.
Do not think you are any less a doctor because you did not read the entire book. Grab your laptop, go to youtube and learn in the way that suits you.
Happy studying, future doctors!
