Last minute preparation tactics for NEET exam
Hey, there! Listen, I get it. The clock’s ticking louder every day, and NEET exam 2024 feels like it’s coming closer and closer. But guess what? It’s okay. Seriously. These last few days? They can be a real game changer if you do it right.
So, take a deep breath, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s chat. You can still make a massive difference. Ready? Let’s see how.
Prioritize and refine:
Look, we both know cramming the entire syllabus now is impossible. So, what are we going to do? Prioritization.
The 80-20 principle
We’re going to follow the 80-20 principle during the last few days.
We must focus on the 20% of topics that are likely to yield 80% of the marks. Last-minute NEET exam preparation is not just about studying; it’s also about managing time, health, and stress levels.
Applying the 80-20 rule, we can allocate our time and resources effectively, making sure that we are not only studying but also taking care of our well-being.
Focus on those high-yield chapters, the do-or-die topics that NEET loves. It’s about being smart work right now. If you’ve already figured out your do or die list, that’s great. If not, here’s one for you.
Biology
Do or Die Chapters For NEET 2024 – Biology
Biology Important Chapters For NEET 2024 | Weightage (%) |
Human Physiology | 15 |
Genetics and Evolution | 14 |
Plant Physiology | 13 |
Ecology | 12 |
Diversity in Living World | 10 |
Structural Organization in Animals and Plants | 9 |
Cell Structure and Function | 8 |
Reproduction | 7 |
Biology and Human Welfare | 6 |
Biotechnology and Its Applications | 6 |
See, it’s very clear based on the weightage that ‘Human Physiology’, ‘Genetics and Evolution’ and ‘Ecology’ cannot be skipped, you’ll be losing your seat if you do. ‘Plant physiology’ is also a high yield topic but also very conceptual. If you have studied it before then go through it. If not, it’s not wise to get into it right now.
‘Diversity in Living World’ and ‘Structural Organization in Animals and Plants’ are example-based chapters. Note down all the examples and try to keep revising them throughout the day.
Lastly, the rest of the units can be revised by solving their previous year questions and sticking to the memorization based aspects only (examples, dates, names of scientists) if you’ve not studied them before.
Gist: Must know all examples from NCERT. Must be able to solve atleast PYQs from all the conceptual chapters. Stick to ONLY NCERT AND PYQs.
Chemistry:
Do or Die Chapters For NEET 2024 – Chemistry
Chemistry Important Chapters For NEET 2024 | (%)Weightage
Organic Chemistry | 30 | |
Inorganic Chemistry | 38
Physical Chemistry | 32 |
First, let’s secure physical chemistry, make a formulae sheet and start memorizing formulae. Physical chemistry is relatively easy with very formula based questions. If you know all the formulae, you can easily secure 32%.
Memorize important reactions in organic and inorganic chemistry. Don’t try to understand the conceptual basis if you haven’t understood it so far, just stick to memorization.
Inorganic and organic is just to be studied from the NCERT now. Stick to the NCERT. You can easily secure a rank under 20,000 if you do so.
Gist: Stick to NCERT for all three parts. Memorize reactions and formulae.
Physics:
Do or Die Chapters For NEET 2024 – Physics
Physics Important Chapters For NEET 2024 | Weightage (%) |
Mechanics | 20 |
Modern Physics | 18 |
Optics | 15 |
Electrodynamics | 14 |
Thermodynamics | 12 |
Waves and Oscillations | 11 |
Electromagnetic Induction | 10 |
See, ‘Modern Physics’ is an easy and high yield unit, the questions from this unit are very formula based, memorize the formulae and you will easily be able to solve most of the questions. Same goes for ‘Optics’, ‘Waves and Oscillations’ and ‘Electromagnetic Induction’.
Now, we come to the difficult ones. See, at this point, you cannot start trying to understand these chapters. Find formula sheets, and start cramming them up. You cannot understand ‘Mechanics’ in a month, don’t try to.
Solve PYQs to get an idea of the type of questions and the difficulty level.
Gist: Do not try to understand the concepts, cram up the formulae and solve questions.
Revise What You Know And Solve Tests
Got revision sheets? Perfect. No? Don’t panic and start making them now. Time’s too precious. Instead, hit the download button on quality resources online. Your goal? Brush up on what you know, and learn magic tricks if you find any.
You have to have a definite strategy: Solve one mock test each day, analyse it thoroughly and then revise based on this mock test. The revision chapters based on the mock tests must be revised very thoroughly. Other than that, keep the entire syllabus revision going on as advised above: NCERTs and Revision sheets.
And hey, skipping mock tests thinking it’ll save time is like skipping breakfast to save time – not wise. A mock test a day keeps the surprises away. Even if you are attempting just one mock test a day, it’s okay. Just don’t stop completely. You don’t want to lose touch with the exam feeling.
Health is Wealth, Really
Neglecting your health now is going to backfire. You need your brain in top-notch condition, and that means taking care of your body. Proper meals, enough sleep, and a bit of relaxation are non-negotiable.
Trust me, your brain absorbs more when it’s well-fed, well-rested, and not stressed to the max. If you’re not in the right physical state to study, you won’t be able to retain whatever you study anyway. Be smart about your health.
Mental Game Strong
This is where the battle is won or lost. Keep saying ‘You can do it’ to yourself in the mirror. Try to imagine yourself with a good NEET scorecard. Look up pictures of your dream medical colleges.
You don’t realize the power of self affirmation until you start doing it. Remember, your mental stance on exam day can be your greatest partner or your worst enemy. Choose wisely.
Quick-Fire Tips
- Physics formulas, chemistry reactions, biology diagrams – keep them on your phone. Every time you’re free for even 5 minutes, start going through them.
- Stay on top of any last-minute instructions from the NTA website. No surprises at the exam center, please.
- Read success stories on the internet. If they did it, why not you?
