How to set up your study table for NEET?
Hello future docs, today we’re gonna discuss a secret study tip: The place that you study in, that is- your NEET study space, holds a lot of importance in priming your brain into studying. You might have experienced it many times, when you are studying on your bed, you just fall asleep. It’s very difficult to keep the concentration up.
But, do you understand that it is the space and not your laziness that is making you sleepy? We start blaming ourselves without analysing our methods.
Let’s understand the problem and see how to deal with it.
The Study Table:
Look, it’s a lot about the space. Sit on a study table with your back straight.
You are going to make it a rule that you won’t study while sitting on your bed. It is very difficult to concentrate when you are merging all your spaces. Your study space must be different from your sleep space, You cannot give your brain the wrong signal.
A clear mind is a focused mind. If you do not have a study table, don’t worry, just sit on the floor.
Trust me, the mind feels sleepy in the bed. It is cozy and warm unlike a study table. A study table is the idle environment to study.
Neat and Tidy Study Space.
As I said, a clear mind is a focused mind. You have to make sure that there is no clutter and unnecessary stuff in your study space. It has to be clean and spacious.
If you are the type of person who is relatively messy and unorganized, there’s no issue with making a mess elsewhere. Just make sure that your study space is clean.
While this might sound a little pretentious and pinteresty, it genuinely works.
The psychology behind it is that if you have to put in effort to look for each book, each item of stationary, or anything else, you get irritated soon and will stop studying. Whereas, if you are organized and clean you will like the process of studying.
So if you are a book hoarder, store them elsewhere, not on your study table.

Light it Up: Harnessing the Might of Proper Illumination
Proper lighting is a game-changer. Just as sunlight triggered the ancient humans to go hunt, it triggers the modern student’s brain to work or study.
Even if you’re a night owl, ensure that while working at night your workspace is well-lit, this will trick your brain into ‘work mode’. Avoid trying to study in a dimly lit room or a dark room.
Try to avoid very bright white lights though, as they can give you a headache. Use soft yellow lights and less intense white lights if possible. Or just sit in the living room and switch on the tube-lights.
“Could We Lower the Volume, Please?”
See, studying is the main event; everything else is ads.
If your mom’s watching her daily soaps or your dad’s watching some political rant on YouTube, ON FULL VOLUME, don’t hesitate to ask them for some quiet. They’ll get it. If they don’t, go sit elsewhere.
If that’s not possible, put in your earbuds, play some white noise, and then start studying.
“If Not a Comfy Chair, Then What?”
Given the investments you’ve made in classes, consider one more for a comfortable chair. One where you can sit all day without having to beg your siblings for a back massage.
Without a good chair, pulling an all-day study marathon becomes a Herculean task.
Wall of Positivity
A wall adorned with uplifting quotes, sticky notes, and cinematic inspiration. Visualize this wall as your motivation feed, bursting with energy and positivity. Decorate it with your favorite quotes, objectives, or even a snapshot from an inspiring movie scene.
Invest a day in making a wall that resonates with your aspirations and reminds you why you’re doing it in the first place. It’s bound to draw you closer to your goals.
Green Vibes: Welcome Nature Indoors
While it might seem far-fetched, it’s pretty doable. If you own indoor plants, place them near your study area. The aim is to breathe life into your space, keeping lethargy at bay.
The Green color oozes positivity, ensuring a peaceful mind.
“To-Do or Not To-Do” Board
A small whiteboard can easily fit on your desk. Besides jotting down tasks, I penned down biology examples on the board. For a month, I kept rotating examples from the Morphology of flowering plants.
Each glance at the board (which was frequent) led to a quick revision. This strategy helped me memorize a ton in just a few months.
Snack Time: Brain Fuel
Throughout my prep, my desk boasted a container of assorted nuts. Continuous studying inevitably leads to snacking. If you’re going to snack, might as well opt for healthier choices.
